“How fleeting are all human passions compared with the massive continuity of ducks.” Dorothy L Sayers
Hello! I am a historian and genealogist based in the north of England. I graduated from the University of Sheffield with a BA in History, then followed up with a MA in Early Modern History.  I am currently planning my PhD which will focus on the social networks and personal connections of early modern English wool merchants in southern England. My areas of interest include early modern social hierarchies, folk belief with a particular emphasis on beliefs and rituals related to death, and the influence of gender and ethnicity on these issues. In addition to my formal studies, I am a family historian who started work on my own family before helping others trace their roots. I hope to bring that experience into my PhD by utilising the prosopography inherent in genealogy to identify and understand connections between families. Geographically, I have extensive experience of researching in the south-east and Midlands areas of England. I am passionate about communicating academic history to non-historians, and about using digital technology to find new ways to both present history, and encourage engagement with the subject. If you want to get in touch, just go here. Current projects: In addition to a PhD, I am currently working on a biography of the life of Thomas Dallam; a podcast based around the 1640s; and will shortly be publishing a history themed blog.
